Memphis, TN

On December 18th, I flew to Memphis, TN where I had several meetings of note.

Initially, I met with Dr. Mike Day, the Director of Missions for the Mid-south Baptist Association. The MSBA is very interested in providing volunteers for Surgance programs in Memphis with the eye on serving their city in a collaborative environment.

In the early afternoon, Surgance coordinator Shaun Payne and I visited inner-city Kingsbury Elementary and met with principal Anne Allen to discuss a rejuveNATION project at her Title One school. She was very excited about the opportunity and I think that there will be an incredible display of “Before and After” photographs. The landscaping and exterior of the building will provide us with a great opportunity to make a difference in this community.

After that meeting, Shaun and I traveled to meet with Jim Perdue, the Sr. Pastor of Crosspointe Church in Millington, just north of Memphis. Jim is the son of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. Jim is very excited about providing volunteers for the effort, knows many politicians and business leaders, and is already thinking about how many different ways Crosspointe can partner with Surgance. Look for big things from this developing partnership.
