No rest time!

Caleb and Joshua ask if they can skip an "unnecessary" rest time today.

The Surgance Database in Development: A Shout Out for a Help Out

Hattie Moore is really working hard integrating Surgance networks and the Salesforce web-based databank. If you have someone in your circle of influence that could assist her (pro bono) with some technical items in constructing the database properly for long term health, please let us know!

Platy-Parker

This is one of our favorite pictures of Parker. He's at daycare and he looks like a duck...or platypus.

Surgance Hats and T-shirts

I saw this hatworld.com display in a store the other day. It would be great if we had hats and T-shirts for our Surgance volunteers around the country.

Who’s feeling creative?

The boys think Mommy is poor

So Brian has been in Vegas the last few days. Today was the first really nice day so I was excited about getting myself and the boys OUTSIDE. We started with our daily trip to the YMCA. I told them that I wanted to take them to the park, but we were probably going to have to wait until after naps because I wanted to take them to a surprise. Their wheels were spinning with the possibilities as they were discussing what it might be amongst the two of them. I heard/saw Caleb in the back seat lean over to Joshua and he said, "Do you think we are going to Chuck E. Cheese?" I replied with, "I wish, but we have to wait for Daddy for a trip there." Caleb then said, "Yea, that's right because Daddy is the one that has a lot of money." Then Joshua chimes in, "Mommy only has money for gas stations, Publix and Wendys"...

Partnership Discussions with the North American Mission Board

I met with Dave Howard of the North American Mission Board today. Appropriately, we ate at Chip’s Southern Cookin’ (The Surgance chairman of the board is Chip Riggs)! As you can tell, we both broke out our “The Back of the Napkin” skills to begin our potential partnership discussions.

Dave’s a great friend providing leadership to churches around the country that are interested in local and national outreach projects. Sounds like an opportunity for partnership! As you guys well know, Surgance owes a great debt of gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers from churches and faith-based entities that serve alongside us and donate to our projects or to our organization each year.

“When in Rome...”

Living in New York City and Las Vegas, I rarely get to discuss business over authentic Southern cooking. But after eating this delicacy, it was probably no surprise that Dave and I agreed that our meeting was productive and strategic. We vowed to meet again soon...

Oh, and we made plans to work together too.

Lessons from the Obama Social Media Campaign

I came across this presentation from Edelman this week and was blown away.

Regardless of your political views, it is generally regarded that Barack Obama ran a terrific campaign that mobilized grassroots volunteers to act on behalf of the cause. How did the architects of this campaign use social media? Are there lessons we can learn from the campaign that apply directly to the Surgance movement? Are they practical? Should we act on them immediately?

I believe we should. And I believe we are! Dwight Watson is leading us to embrace many of these principles already. When the new website arrives (in hours), you’ll see that many principles are already in play. The fact that you are reading this post on the Surgance Central blog also underscores that fact. Still, we have a long way to go. What I appreciate about this clear and concise report is that we have a blueprint that is affirmed by industry professionals in the know.

Enjoy. And I welcome your comments as we all move forward together...

Download now or preview on posterous
rejuveNATION_1.2.pdf (1311 KB)

In the space of 48 hours this week, Eric, Roy and/or I spent time on the phone, WebEx or email working on 2009 projects with rejuveNATION leadership in the following cities:

Washington D.C. - Dale South
New York, NY – Ray Parascando
Shawnee, OK – Josh Karr, Kristen Roye
New Orleans, LA – Shawn Doss, Matt Brichetto, Michael Hitch
Panama City, FL – Shawn Doss, Mike Thornton
Reno, NV – David Thoroughman, Randy York, Eddie Hancock
Tucson, AZ – Jay Huffstutler, Jake Rasmussen
Austin, TX – Jeremy Webb
Savannah, GA – Mike Edde

Additionally, there are other leaders out there planning 2009 activity that just didn’t need to talk to us about their projects in that short time frame! Here they are...

Memphis, TN – Shaun Payne, Mike Day
Millington, TN – Shaun Payne, Jim Perdue
Atlanta, GA – Todd Briggs
Las Vegas, NV – Dwight Watson, Shane Critser
Baltimore, MD – Matt Steen

And, there is activity behind the scenes in the following cities that could result in 2009 projects as well:

San Diego, CA
San Francisco, CA
Castle Rock, CO
Colorado Springs, CO
Birmingham, AL

Wow! What a story to tell...

Thanks everybody for all you are doing across the country to make a difference in your cities and in the lives of thousands. Collectively, our volunteers could potentially cover over one million square feet of wall space this year!
