Caleb's New Year's Resolution and This Year's Hottest Game on the Playground
There you go, folks. More from Caleb’s “Principles to Live By” book soon to be published. Do not talk (tok) when your bus driver is talking (toking).
Brilliant management insight from my six year old on almost a daily basis. He is kind of the Peter Drucker of his kindergarten class.
By the way, I asked him what he played on the playground today and he told me some of his friends and he played a game called “Indian and the Jones.” I bet it was awesome. Full of adventure, even. brian AUDIA

Lessons From the Road
Lessons From the Road
My wife and I are training for the Los Angeles Marathon to be run on March 21, 2010. As I've committed to the race, there are several lessons I've learned that I believe apply to Surgance and our work across the country and around the world. Visualization: Before you set goals to achieve your dreams, you must "see" what you want to accomplish in your mental eye. Finishing a marathon is a healthy goal for us, but becoming the industry leader in helping those with new ideas to impact communities is what Surgance is all about. Goal Setting: As Stephen Covey (author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) states, "Begin with the end in mind." My wife and I set a goal that we wanted to achieve. Surgance does this on an annual basis, but ultimately we know that we want to change the world by impacting lives and communities in positive ways. Process: Setting a goal may be the first step to achieving your dreams, but establishing your road map for success is just as important. Prioritization: Many times the most difficult decisions are what good things must be left undone in order to focus on the most important. Dedication: Even after setting goals and developing an action plan, individuals and companies must forge ahead with a single-mindedness that communicates that which is most important to the organization. Mental Toughness: Quitting is easy. There are always many more reasons to delay, not start, slow down or stop when the going gets tough than there are to make something happen. Stick to it when you have communicated your vision and goals until you are successful. Execution: It all comes down to execution. No matter the dream, goals, plan or that to be accomplished, what separates the contenders from the pretenders is the ability to execute. Somebody, at some point, must go to work and DO. brian AUDIA

Running in San Francisco
San Francisco was cold and wet this week due to El Nino...
Still, I had to get a run in so I covered up and took off for four miles around the city.
Running in San Francisco is almost exactly like running in Manhattan. There are only a couple real differences: Trolley cars and HILLS! My legs were on fire climbing California Street and running through China Town.
Made it home late Friday night and then got up early Saturday morning to hit the pavement for a 17 mile training run with Melissa. Temps were in the 40’s with a strong wind. Running hard for almost three hours will make you sore and tired. Just FYI. Top three things that hurt on me: 1. Right foot 2. Right calf 3. Right knee. Top three things that hurt on Melissa: 1. Hamstrings 2. Knees 3. Left big toe (do NOT try and lift it up or you will unleash the wrath of Hades).
Top three things that are doing great on both of us: 1. Heads 2. Hearts 3. Waistlines.
